GATHERED FROM THE LAND - CRAFTED BY HAND by Reyn Wells

Mahogany Wooden Products

Reyn Wells is born from a family of artisans who have, for generations, expressed their passion for creativity and design through mediums of paint and wood. Woodworking has become the signature of the Wells family name through the vision, influence, and artistry of Barbra (paint), Gene (wood) and Terry (wood), Grant (booze).

The story of Wells family craftsmanship begins with boats and airplanes. Reyn is the new generation learning from Grandpa Terry.  Reyn is currently attending Savannah College of Art & Design majoring in Architecture and Furniture Design.

Although Reyn is attending college in Savannah, when she is back on Kaua'i you can find her in Grandpa Terry's shop creating a piece of art. In keeping with the tradition her family set, Reyn seeks to create wood designs for everyday use.

Over the summer, Reyn focused on wood spatula's. She was driven to bring the natural beauty of the wood grain to life in every kitchen utensil and crafted them with an eye for stability, sustainability and longevity. She is now added bowls and soon there will be cutting boards available.

The Process

As a family, we are committed to sustainable woodworking, so everyone can enjoy high quality wooden bowls, boards and more for generations. Terry (Grandpa) and Carole ("Tutu", the inspiration behind "Tutu's Gin") planted their hardwood trees more than 30 years ago. One tree at a time is cut down every so often, so the rest of the trees can maximize their growth potential.

Drying the Wood

All wood goes through a drying process for a month or more, depending on the size of the wood. Longer planks are dried in a kiln to remove moisture.

Hand-turned Bowls - One of a kind

Once dry, Terry (Grandpa) has taught Reyn how to take a "bowl blank" and mount it onto a lathe. Using various gauges, she forms the inside and outside of the bowl with a precise approach to curve and consistency. The wood's unique characteristics are allowed to come through, where no two are identical. Reyn then fine-tunes the interior and exterior of the bowl by sanding the surface for a smooth finished product and applies her Beeswax & Mineral Oil Wood Conditioner.

This Mahagany wooden bowl is round, sturdy, and finished with our food-safe, Beeswax Mineral Oil blend. The size and shape make this bowl perfect for family-style servings of salad, your favorite dish or a beautiful display item.  A tin of Reyn's Food Safe Wood Conditioner made from 100% Pure Mineral Oil & Farm Beeswax will be sent along with the bowl for any future care.
